Nope--when "Barney Miller" was on the air John Malkovich was in Highland Park, Illinois getting the Steppenwolf Theatre Company off the ground with people like Gary Sinese and Laurie Metcalf. They moved to Chicago in 1980, added people like Glenne Headly and John Mahoney, and never stopped looking back.
BTW, for a day job John drove a school bus.
